About

We're Okotoks' first volunteer group dedicated to helping maintain the beauty and function of the Foothills' natural spaces. Focused on bringing community-based management of everything from native flora, weed control and landscaping to waste management, water monitoring and wildlife observation, we hope to expand the successes of the Friends system here.Interested in partnering or volunteering? Whether you're a student looking for work experience or a landowner with space to spare we're always excited to hear from people like you!

Take a look at a few of our projects:

Butterfly Gardens
Located in Okotok's Drake Landing, 3 spaces are maintained exclusively using native plants with the goal of creating beautiful, low effort gardenscapes that showcase the versatility of native horticulture while creating new habitat for local butterflies.

Community Events
We represent local ecological groups and bring free plants to events like the Millarville Horticulture Club's annual plant sale, keeping gardening affordable for locals while helping our partners grow.

Renaturalization
We co-ordinate with local municipals to eliminate noxious invasives and replace them with low maintenance natives, protecting Alberta's unique environment and saving taxpayer funds on landscaping costs.
